| Notes: | - In 1986, the Genesis Awards event was launched by animal advocate and actress Gretchen Wyler, under the aegis of Cleveland Amory's organization 'The Fund for Animals'. Wyler served on the Fund's board of directors as vice chairperson from 1972 to 1991. In 1991, Wyler founded The Ark Trust, Inc., which adopted presentation of the Genesis Awards. The event has become the nation's premier animal issues "consciousness-raiser" and the only major media and arts award concerning animal issues. (from the Ark Trust web site, 2000)
- In August 2002, The Ark Trust has joined forces with The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) to become The HSUS Hollywood Office. The HSUS is the US' largest animal protection organization, with over 7 million members and constituents.
- The awards honor animal-related achievements at all, but are given in a fair amount of film and television categories.
