Lively: 'No Feud With Ferrera'

22 August 2008 5:04 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Blake Lively has laughed off rumours of a feud with Ugly Betty star America Ferrera.

Ferrera was seen rolling her eyes as Lively was asked about her TV hit Gossip Girl when the pair appeared together on a U.S. news show earlier this month.

The two actresses were promoting new movie The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2, in which they both appear.

But Lively insists she and Ferrera are the best of friends - and she doesn't blame her for appearing exasperated on the news show.

Lively explains, "I haven't even heard about it. I don't ever pay attention to that stuff.

"She's one of my best friends in the whole wide world and honestly, when you're sitting in a room for three hours doing satellite interviews... We were staring at a Post-It (note) with a smiley face, so I think I probably rolled my eyes a hundred times. I'm like, 'Oh gosh, this thing is still going on?'"

'Ugly Betty' Guest Star Meets 'The Starter Wife'

21 August 2008 11:30 PM, PDT | From buddytv.com | See recent BuddyTV news

During the second season of Ugly Betty, we saw a lot of developments involving the relationships of several characters on the show.  Betty (America Ferrera) herself had to make some life-changing decisions, while her sister Hilda (Ana Ortiz) moved on from the death of Santos (Kevin Alejandro), the father of her flamboyant son, Justin (Mark Indelicato).  Moreover, we saw Hilda heating things up with Coach Diaz, played by Eddie Cibrian.

However, just when you thought you’ll have some more eye candy in the form of Coach Diaz, the face behind the hot new Hilda squeeze is said to be heading to another show!  In fact, Ew reports that Eddie Cibrian was recently recruited into the USA network’s The Starter Wife, where he is to play a detective investigating some suspicious events in Molly’s (Debra Messing) life.  Cibrian is set to appear on the show for the three-episode arc.

Stars Congratulate DeGeneres + De Rossi

19 August 2008 5:13 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Stars including Katherine Heigl, America Ferrera and T.R. Knight have all offered their congratulations to newlyweds Ellen DeGeneres and Portia De Rossi.

The talk show queen, 50, wed her longtime girlfriend, 35, in an intimate ceremony in the backyard of their Beverly Hills home on Saturday.

Just 19 guests watched as the couple read aloud their handwritten vows, including DeGeneres' mother Betty and de Rossi's mother Margaret Rogers, who flew in from her native Australia for the occasion.

And Heigl was quick to congratulate the couple, telling People.com, "I wish her all the best, all the happiness, all the joy that comes with that certificate in hand."

While Ugly Betty star Ferrera adds, "I'm just so happy that they get to love each other in such an official way."

California lifted its ban on gay weddings in May after the state's Supreme Court ruled the prohibition of same-sex unions was unconstitutional.

And gay Grey's Anatomy actor T.R. Knight is delighted that the nuptials were allowed to go ahead. He says, "I'm happy that they're happy. I'm happy that they're allowed to get married."

18 August 2008 11:42 PM, PDT | From Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news

The wedding of Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi was a private one but that didn't prevent it from media coverage, prompting many celebrity friends of them to offer their congratulations for the newlyweds. Joshua Radin, who was invited to the wedding by Ellen in a bid to surprise Portia, opened up about his feeling of singing in wedding for the first time ever.

The singer-songwriter told People, "I cannot imagine topping that experience. I've never played a wedding before, and I probably won't again until it's my own." During the nuptials, he performed acoustic renditions of several new tracks and also sang the ballad "They Bring Me To You."

Besides Radin, Katherine Heigl also sent her congratulations for Ellen and Portia, telling People "I wish her all the best, all the happiness, all the joy that comes with that certificate in hand." Another TV actress America Ferrera offered her

"The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2" web reviews

8 August 2008 9:24 PM, PDT | From screeninglog.com | See recent screeninglog news

Although I'm a guy and I'm 24, I have to admit I enjoyed Sanaa Hamri' "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2" almost as much as I enjoyed its predecessor. And no, not only because of Blake Lively. Anyway, feel free to check out my review right here. Now let's quickly take a look at what other Web critics have to say about the film, which follows Lively, America Ferrera, Alexis Bledel and Amber Tamblyn as four friends who embark on their first year of college and the summer beyond.

• Katey Rich at CinemaBlend: "Blessed with four talented actresses returning for the sequel, as well as a fiercely loyal fanbase, the movie didn't have to do much to satisfy its audience. If it had only tried a little harder, though, it could have been something worth recommending."

• Collider's Brian Orndorf: "It's a candy-coated drama coasting on a once perceptible charm

Review: “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2”

8 August 2008 1:47 PM, PDT | From screeninglog.com | See recent screeninglog news

Seen on: August 7, 2008

The players: Director: Sanaa Hamri, Writer: Elizabeth Chandler, Cast: America Ferrera, Amber Tamblyn, Alexis Bledel, Blake Lively, Jesse Williams

Facts of interest: Chandler also collaborated on the script for the first film.

The plot: "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2" follows four best friends as their embark on the first year of college and the summer beyond.

Our quick thoughts: In 2005’s “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants,” four best girlfriends spent a summer apart but decided to stay connected by sharing a pair of old jeans that fit each one of them perfectly. Based on the acclaimed novel by Ann Brashares, the big-screen adaptation took four interesting characters and had them face several issues that eventually strengthened their bond and taught them a few valuable lessons about life and love.

Movie Review - 'The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2'

6 August 2008 2:02 PM, PDT | From GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2

Starring Alexis Bledel, America Ferrera, Blake Lively, and Amber Tamblyn

Directed by Sanaa Hamri

Rated PG-13

For what it set out to accomplish, the first Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants was a good movie. The Godfather has nothing to worry about, of course, but as a film aimed at girls in their awkward teenage years, Sisterhood had a lot of good qualities. Certainly, it had more really good qualities than mediocre ones.

The stories seemed relevant to that audience and believable to those who may not be in the target demographic, the friendships had their ups and downs, and the performances – particularly by America Ferrera – were authentic and noteworthy.

In 2005, the film was something of a showcase for stars of a pair of TV series that enjoyed a big youth following, Amber Tamblyn from Joan of Arcadia and Alexis Bledel of Gilmore Girls.

Ugly Betty Inspired By Cousin Vinny

5 August 2008 6:30 PM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Ugly Betty star America Ferrera was inspired to become an actress as a child after watching comedy movie hit My Cousin Vinny.

The actress was sent away to law camp by her parents, who hoped their daughter would pursue a career as an attorney.

But, while she was there, she was shown the 1992 film, which earned Marisa Tomei an Academy Award, and decided to aim for fame instead.

She says, "(At law camp) you do mock trials and they take you for a day at the court. One of my favourite parts of law camp was when they showed us My Cousin Vinny. (They said), 'Here's what it's like to (be a lawyer).'

"When my favourite part of law camp was watching My Cousin Vinny I realised, maybe I don't really want to be a lawyer, maybe I just want to act like a lawyer."

'Gossip Girl' Saves the Planet

4 August 2008 11:47 PM, PDT | From GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news

This weekend, Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 arrives in theaters. When the first one was released in 2005, there were two fairly famous names - Alexis Bledel and Amber Tamblyn. Both starred in critically acclaimed TV shows, Gilmore Girls and Joan of Arcadia, respectively. Now the shoe is clearly on the other foot; those shows are no longer on the air, and America Ferrera won an Emmy last year for Ugly Betty and the fourth member of the sisterhood, Blake Lively, is the star of one of the hottest youth-oriented shows on television, Gossip Girl.

I was looking for something - anything - relevant to Traveling Pants 2 to write about here at The Big Picture (leading up to their release, we always like to feature the new releases the studios let us see), and I came across this compilation of environmentally conscious public service announcements featuring the Gossip Girl cast. Clearly,

Opening This Week: Diy art, Philip Roth, the Germs and motorcycle gangs

4 August 2008 7:20 AM, PDT | From ifc.com | See recent IFC news

By Neil Pedley

This week's delectable delights include, amongst other things, such highbrow morsels as a gallery retrospective on D.I.Y. art and a crash course in the history of the California vineyards. If that's not your cup of proverbial tea, there's always psychotic bikers and the ballad of two stoned losers on the run from gangsters and the police.

"Beautiful Losers"

More than 15 years after founding the hugely influential Alleged Gallery in New York, the freelance curator Aaron Rose continues to serve as a cornerstone of the now-global D.I.Y. art scene. Here he teams with "Blair Witch" actor-turned-director Joshua Leonard to chart the evolution and subsequent commercialization of a movement whose genesis was found in a group of outcasts, slackers and misfits from the fringes of subculture. Emerging from the dirty little worlds of surfing, skateboarding and street graffiti, a group of artists including the likes of Harmony Korine,

If you've missed the girls from "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants," don't worry, they'll be back with a brand-new adventure this Wednesday. Directed by Sanaa Hamri (who replaces Ken Kwapis), "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2" follows Lena (Alexis Bledel), Carmen (America Ferrera), Bridget (Blake Lively) and Tibby (Amber Tamblyn) as they tell each other all about their experiences during the first year of college and the following summer.

Warner Bros. recently released 11 clips from the flick, and you can check out all of them just below. Although I haven't read Ann Brashares' series of books, I really enjoyed the first film and certainly hope the filmmaker bring back the same interesting characters. We'll know on Wednesday. No star treatment for 'Betty' in NYC

America Ferrera has revealed that she is thrilled with her new life in New York - as the city's residents "don't care" about her fame. Ferrera Loves New Yorkers' Nonchalance

30 July 2008 12:07 PM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Ugly Betty star America Ferrera can live a normal life now the TV show has moved from Los Angeles to New York City, because she can live anonymously in the Big Apple.

The series was relocated to Manhattan earlier this year to capitalise on new tax incentives on offer in the city.

And Ferrera insists that the relocation has revived the show's cast because of the bustling city's boundless energy and nonchalant attitude.

She says, "I love shooting Ugly Betty here. I love New York. I feed off the energy. New York streets are so alive, it truly gives you inspiration.

"And the people? Incredible. They don't care who you are. They recognise you, but go right on with their lives. Like, they see me and holler: 'Betty, we love you... now move, you're blocking traffic.'"
