Walt Disney Pictures and Walden Media have confirmed that for budgetary and logistical reasons the Burbank-based studio is not exercising its option to co-produce and co-finance "The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Voyage Of The Dawn Treader" with Walden. The Hollywood Reporter says the third installment was in preproduction and set for a spring shoot for a planned May 2010 release. The development puts the participation of the talent attached in doubt, adds the trade. Michael Apted was on board to direct a script by Steven Knight. The key players of the second installment, "Prince Caspian" -- Ben Barnes, Georgie Henley, William Moseley and Anna Popplewell -- were to return for the third film. According to The Hollywood Reporter, “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader” will have to sail without Disney. While declining to elaborate, Disney and Walden Media confirmed Tuesday that for budgetary and logistical reasons the Burbank-based studio is not exercising its option to co-produce and co-finance the next “Narnia” movie with Walden. The third entry in the series, based on the classic books by C.S. Lewis, was in pre-production and set for a spring shoot for a planned May 2010 release. The development puts the participation of the talent attached in doubt. Michael Apted was on board to direct a script by Steven Knight. The key players of the second installment, “Prince Caspian”—Ben Barnes, Georgie Henley, William Moseley and Anna Popplewell—were to return for the third film. Walden has a strong relationship with the Lewis estate and will shop “Treader” in hopes of finding a new partner.

Disney has officially withdrawn from The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader just as the film was preparing to shoot in early 2009. The Hollywood Reporter said Disney and Walden declined to say why but it’s been known for some time that the studio has had qualms about the budget given the lackluster $141 million box office performance of Prince Caspian.
Whole Prince Caspian cost $200 million, Dawn Treader was seen as a $100 million production and recently relocated principal photography from Mexico to Australia as a nod towards keeping costs down. Disney had the film, to be directed by Michael Apted from Steven Knight’s script, pencilled in for a May 2010 release.
Contracts with the returning cast -- Ben Barnes, Georgie Henley, William Moseley and Anna Popplewell – may now be in jeopardy if a new studio doesn’t sep in quickly. The trade speculates 20th-Century Fox may step in

"The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader" has faced an upsetting news before it even begins filming. On Tuesday, December 23, both Walt Disney Pictures and Walden Media have confirmed that the third "Narnia" movie will have to move on without the mouse house supporting its production.
Choosing not exercising its option to co-produce and co-finance the sequel to "The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian", the studio pointed out on budgetary and logistical reasons. Still, they do not elaborate more on those reasons. Due to Disney's exit, Walden reportedly will look for other partner, which most likely candidate for the moment is said to be the 20th Century Fox.
"The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader" itself has been reported to be in pre-production and is set to begin shooting in spring of 2009. Michael Apted was on board to direct a script by Steven Knight and "Prince Caspian" stars,

While the second installment in the Chronicles of Narnia series didn’t exactly blow the roof off the box office, I definitely didn’t see this coming. Disney has announced that for budgetary and logistical reasons it is not exercising its option to co-produce and co-finance the third Narina movie with Walden Media. The third entry in the series, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, based on the classic book by C.S. Lewis, was in preproduction and set for a spring shoot for a planned May 2010 release. This new development puts all of that in question. Michael Apted (Amazing Grace, The World Is Not Enough) was on board to direct a script by Steven Knight and the key players of the second installment, Prince Caspian -- Ben Barnes, Georgie Henley, William Moseley and Anna Popplewell -- were set to return for the third film. Walden has

Chicago – “The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian” may have fallen flat at the box office this summer but it is sure to be a gigantic hit on Blu-Ray this holiday season. Not only are the words “family Disney movie” practically a license to print money around this time of year, but this studio has been one of the frontrunners in the race for the best at making Blu-Ray.
With “Prince Caspian”, they may not have made one of the greatest films or even Blu-Ray releases of the season but the mantra of “bigger is better” that clearly followed the production of the film has made it intact to the extensive Bd release.
Personally, I found the critical and commercial shrug that greeted “Prince Caspian” somewhat surprising. Releasing what should have been a holiday film in between Iron Man and Indiana Jones IV was clearly a misstep, but
