Three new 'Doubt' TV spots hit

1 December 2008 7:30 PM, PST

I like this tagline: One thing is certain - Doubt. I also like what I see in the new TV spots for John Patrick Shanley's upcoming drama "Doubt."

Based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning play, the movie tells the poignant story of a nun who accuses a priest of abusing a young boy at a Catholic school. The film stars Meryl Streep, Amy Adams and Philip Seymour Hoffman.

The trailer already won me over, and the new spots after the jump make me want to see more. I especially look forward to those three lead performances, which I am sure will rock the screen once the movie opens.

"Doubt" opens in limited release Dec. 12, 2008. If you pay close attention, you'll spot quite a bit of new footage in the television spots below. Enjoy.

Winstone joins Soderbergh's 'Cleo' musical

1 December 2008 7:16 PM, PST

Ray Winstone is set to play Julius Caesar in Steven Soderbergh's upcoming rock 'n' roll musical about Cleopatra, according to MTV.

Catherine Zeta-Jones is already on board as the lead actress, with Hugh Jackman in final negotiations to star as Marc Antony.

Rock band Guided by Voices wrote the music, with James Greer penning the script for the film, which is reportedly budgeted at $30 million.

So what else did Soderbergh say about this extravagant project? “I’ve always wanted to do a musical. All the ones that were coming along just weren’t for me. I wanted to do a real rock n roll musical like ‘Tommy.'"

Well, that sounds interesting alright, and I'm eager to see how the whole thing will look like eventually. With Zeta-Jones in the lead, chances are good it'll be a feast for the eyes.

Soberbergh’s next film to open in theaters is the two-part project “Che,

'Twilight' sequel ready to shoot in March?

1 December 2008 7:15 PM, PST

Now that Catherine Hardwicke's "Twilight" has collected about $120 million in just two weeks, we're hearing a lot about the sequel, "New Moon."

As Joblo reports, lead actress Kristen Stewart recently talked to Ryan Seacrest on Kiis Fm, saying the follow-up to the vampire romance may start shooting as early as March 2009.

People also tell me part of the second book takes place in Italy, and according to Stewart, they may even end up filming over there.

While talking to MTV recently, Hardwicke also chatted about the challenges she'll have to deal with in "New Moon."

“[Bella hearing Edward’s voice] would be one of the challenges for sure. Like, how much do you see it? Does it look like an aberration? Does it look like it’s in her mind? That’s one of the things you would have to test," she told MTV.

And just in case you haven't heard or read it yet,

First stills from Amenábar's 'Agora'

1 December 2008 7:14 PM, PST

Remember Alejandro Amenábar? He's the guy who directed "Tesis," "The Others" and "Mar Adentro," among others, and his next project is "Agora," due in theaters Dec. 18, 2009.

IMDb describes the film as follows: A historical drama set in Roman Egypt, concerning a slave who turns to the rising tide of Christianity in the hopes of pursuing freedom while also falling in love with his master, the famous female philosophy professor and atheist Hypatia of Alexandria.

Cineblog recently posted two first pictures from the film, both showing Rachel Weisz as Hypatia. You can check out one above and the other one after the jump.

Also starring are Max Minghella, Oscar Isaac and Rupert Evans.

Rob Zombie to return for 'Halloween 2'?

1 December 2008 7:14 PM, PST

Last month we learned that the sequel to 2007's remake "Halloween" would launch into production early next year, but one question remained in the open: who's on board to direct?

Well, according to Shock Till You Drop, the latest rumor is that Rob Zombie will return to helm the follow-up. This remains unconfirmed at this stage, so make sure you take this with a grain of salt.

The only other thing we know at this stage is that Tyler Mane will reprise his role as Michael Myers.

If Zombie returned for "Halloween 2," what will happen to his other upcoming project, "Tyrannosaurus Rex"? Word out there on the Web is that it will probably be put on hold for now.

Whatever happens, I still don't think more "Halloween" remaking is a good idea. Feel free to share your thoughts on this below.

Big-screen version of 'Rome' possible

1 December 2008 7:52 AM, PST

Although "Rome" the television series is no more, its creator Bruno Heller plans a theatrical movie to give the show the closing it apparently deserves.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Heller said plans for a movie version are being discussed, although nothing has been confirmed at this stage.

HBO cancelled "Rome" after its second season. Ratings were not phenomenal as the series moved along, but the show won quite a few awards, including several Emmys.

From THR: "Heller would not discuss plot ideas, but the original series outline for 'Rome' next called for the hedonistic Roman leaders to deal with the rise of a certain problematic rabbi."

While I heard a lot about the show when it was still on, I have to admit I haven't had a chance yet to check it out, which is why I can't judge whether a theatrical movie is a good idea.

Tommy Lee Wallace to direct 'Hellversity'

1 December 2008 7:51 AM, PST

Filmmaker Tommy Lee Wallace is set to direct the low-budget horror indie "Helliversity" for FarCor Studios and Indusa Global.

Variety says the film follows a group of American exchange students haunted by a ruthless spirit inside a high-security university overseas. This gives travel abroad a new meaning, doesn't it?

Wallace and Steve Langford penned the script for the flick, which will shoot for several weeks this coming March.

Tommy Lee Wallace may not be a name you hear that often these days, but the man is known for directing "Halloween III: Season of the Witch" and "Friday Night Part 2."

Final word: To me this sounds more or less like something we've seen many times before. I mean, don't you get tired of watching students running from evil spirits?

Gabriele Muccino set for 'Last Kiss' sequel

30 November 2008 9:04 PM, PST

Italian filmmaker Gabriele Muccino will return to his home country of Italy to write and direct "Baciami Ancora," a sequel to his 2001 hit comedy "L'Ultimo Bacio."

Better known as "The Last Kiss," the movie follows the story of a young man whose life takes a drastic turn after his longtime girlfriend announces she's pregnant.

According to Empire, "Baciami Ancora," or "Kiss Me Again," will focus on the couple some 10 years after the first film. Shooting in Italy is set to begin some time next year.

The success of "Bacio" inspired a Hollywood remake, which opened in 2006 with Zach Braff, Jacinda Barrett and Rachel Bilson in the lead roles.

While I completely adored Muccino's original flick, the remake pretty much stank, and I sincerely hope we'll never see a sequel to it.

As for Muccino, he recently laucnhed his Hollywood career with Will Smith's "The Pursuit of Happyness." His next film,

Ashton Kutcher goes all 'Neurotic'

30 November 2008 9:03 PM, PST

Ashton Kutcher is set to star in Sony Pictures' upcoming romantic comedy "American Neurotic" according to Cinema Blend.

Although not much is known about the film at this stage, Kutcher is expected to play a womanizer who tells his psychiatrist all about this commitment problems.

Soon after, however, he meets his dream girl, who also happens to be his psych's daughter. And of course, that's where all the troubles start.

I don't know about you, but don't you think this sounds just like "Prime," the movie with Uma Thurman and Meryl Streep?

Anyway, Kutcher last starred in the mediocre comedy "What Happens in Vegas." The actor also recently signed on to star in Robert Luketic's upcoming action comedy "Five Killers."
