Rob Zombie Back for Halloween 2?
1 December 2008 4:47 PM, PST
So the rumor mill keeps on churning concerning Halloween 2 the sequel to Rob Zombie's re-imagining of the once great franchise and it seems like Rz could be coming back for another round of Myers madness.
Styd reports today that "An insider phoned in this afternoon exclusively informing ShockTillYouDrop.com that Rob Zombie is going to reprise his duties as director and carry on the new Myers legacy that he forged with Tyler Mane behind the mask."
I'll tell you this ... while not the biggest fan of last years remake, at the very least Zombie saved the franchise from being sent directly to Home Video Only Hell. Where ever he takes the series I'm sure there will be lots of blood, profanity, nudity, and of course the employment of Frenetic Shaky Cam™ to give viewers that faux out-of-control feeling that I loathe so very much.
Will he reprise his directing duties?

With the holiday shopping season officially upon us, I figured it might be a good idea to start making some recommendations for the lucky horror-loving folks on your lists!
Being that Blu-ray has officially been accepted as the next step in home video entertainment, I expect that a lot of PlayStation 3's and stand-alone Blu-ray players are going to be pretty hot items this year, but what of the movies available for them? If you already own the DVD of your favorite flick, is there a need to replace it with a Blu-ray? I'm here to answer all of your questions in the first annual ...
Before we get into my picks, let's take a second to explain how I rated them. They're broken down into three categories:
Can't Miss -- Must Haves: These are the cream of the crop! The purchases that are guaranteed to bring a smile to someone's face.

Exclusive Dying Breed Pics!
1 December 2008 2:35 PM, PST
It wasn't long ago that After Dark Films confirmed Dying Breed as one of Horrorfest III's 8 Films to Die For; and today they gave us not one, but three, exclusive pics from the film to share with our readers.
As a refresher, Dying Breed follows two couples who penetrate the Tasmanian wilderness in order to prove that an ancient species known as the Tasmanian Tiger still exists. What they find is a species much more horrifying than they ever imagined. Jody Dwyer directed the film, which he co-wrote with Michael Boughen and Rod Morris, and Nathan Phillips (Snakes on a Plane, Wolf Creek) and Leigh Whannell (Saw) star.

Stop-Motion Witches Planned?
1 December 2008 11:59 AM, PST
Word just came down via Empire Online today that Alfonso Cuaron will not be directing, but rather producing the upcoming re-adaptation of Roald Dahl’s The Witches. In addition, it’s looking like the film's not going to be yet another live-action version of the book, but something a little bit cooler.
"It won’t be like the original Nicolas Roeg version, which was a beautiful film," he told the mag, "[Del Toro wants] do it completely in stop-motion animation" Now that's an exciting prospect, no? Can you imagine how badass that could be?
Oh, and to add another level of cool to possibilities; Guillermo del Toro is now talking about directing The Witches. Now to be honest, it’s a bit difficult to get too excited about yet another directorial project for the Spanish madman considering what’s on his plate already, but one can’t help but feel a glimmer of

First Stills From Necromentia
1 December 2008 11:54 AM, PST
I gotta give it to the guys at Quiet Earth; they have a tendency to track down some pretty messed-up sounding films to talk about. Take for example Pearry Reginald Teo’s Necromentia, the plot for which is so strange I’m not even going to bother trying to put it into my own words. Dig:
Necromentia tells the stories of 3 men whose lives have been turned over by the existence of a tattooed Ouija Board and the gateways they open with it. Hagen is a strange character who keeps the corpse of his lover in his house, believing that one day she will come back from the dead. But when he meets a mysterious man named Travis, he soon learns that maybe he could be the one who goes into hell and bring her back from the dead. Once Travis carves the Ouija Board from his back, there is

Lionsgate Nabs Scourge for DVD
1 December 2008 1:20 AM, PST
All right, so it didn’t exactly blow away The Foywonder when he reviewed it, but I can’t help but still be somewhat interested in seeing how Scourge turns out. I won’t have long to wait as Fangoria has learned that Lionsgate will be dropping Scourge to DVD come February 24th.
So what’s it about? Glad you asked: Scourge tells the story of an ancient pestilence which has been set free in a small town after being entombed for a century and a half. As mutilated bodies rapidly pile up, nothing stands between the spawning scourge and the rest of the town except our young heroes, Scott and Jesse, who rediscover their love for each other in the process.
Sounds like fun, no? I have to admit I’m digging the DVD cover art, too, despite its obvious homage to Species. No features have been announced for the Scourge DVD,

Dylan Dog Trade Announced
1 December 2008 1:01 AM, PST
To help celebrate the long-overdue adaptation of the Italian comic Dylan Dog, Kevin Munroe’s Dead of Night, Dark Horse Comics has announced an April release date for The Dylan Dog Case Files, a 680-page (!) trade paperback collection of the translated series.
Unavailable in English for almost a full decade, Dylan Dog remains one of the best-selling comics in Europe to this day, still selling more than a million copies per month. This is a great chance for potential fans to find out who this Dylan Dog character really is (aside from the inspiration for Cemetery Man’s Francesco Dellemorte) and learn why his stories have been such a huge hit with the international crowd for so long.
Monsters, demons, things that go bump in the night; it’s all here and waiting for re-discovery come April 2009. Click here to pre-order the trade now!

Pit & Pendulum Comes to Comics
1 December 2008 12:50 AM, PST
In an example of two fates running concurrently to one another and finally meeting at the opportune time, both Darren G. Davis of Bluewater Productions and Marc Lougee of Handmade Heores realized they were working on projects under the Ray Harryhausen Presents banner, and immediately decided to join forces. The result is a comic book version of Lougee’s award-wining stop-motion animation short, “The Pit and the Pendulum” (review).
“Seeing the film published as a comic thru a brilliant publisher like Bluewater is the realization of another dream of mine.” Lougee said in a press release, “What started as a labor of love, and a once in a lifetime chance to make a film with Ray Harryhausen at the helm, has just continued to expand and reach further than I’d imagined. I’m really excited to have an issue of Ray Harryhausen Presents; The Pit and the Pendulum comic

Tommy Lee Wallace is Back With Hellversity
1 December 2008 12:09 AM, PST
It’s been a while since we’ve heard from Halloween III helmer Tommy Lee Wallace, other than his convention appearances over the last few years, but this morning THR got word that the director is making his way back to horror fans with a film called Hellversity.
As the ridiculous title might imply, Hellversity is the story of a group of kids being terrorized by a vengeful spirit while trapped inside a high-security foreign university. Hopefully things won’t be taken too seriously; the fact that it was co-written by long-time “Family Matters” writer Steve Langford is a good indication they will not.
A six-week shoot is set for March in La and India (!); no casting has taken place yet as this is a brand-new beast. We’ll keep you in the loop on how things with Hellversity progress!
