Alternate versions for
Iron Man (2008) More at IMDb Pro »

  • German theatrical version was cut (ca. 4 minutes) by distributor Concorde prior to submitting the film to the FSK since they desperately wanted a "Not under 12" rating. Ironically, when submitting the uncut version for the home video release, it was rated "Not under 12" as well, making the cut version even more unnecessary.

  • On the original cut scene of Pepper overloading the Arc Reactor, Stane attempts to remove himself from the immobile Iron Monger armor while Stark holds on to him. Realizing that he is unable to escape, Stane holds on to Stark's right arm with both hands in an attempt to take Stark with him in the fall. Stark releases parts of his forearm armor, sending Stane down to his death.

  • A deleted scene before Iron Man's battle with the 10 Rings Army in Gulmira shows Stark hosting a party in Dubai. He launches in the middle of a fireworks show. The next scene shows Pepper waking up after the party and seeing a bloody Stark sitting on a chair, still wearing his chest armor.

  • The original version of the Iron Man vs. Iron Monger battle shows Rhodes crashing Stark's Audi R8, sending Iron Monger falling on the nearby hydrogen-powered bus. In an interview with director John Favreau and the production team, when the R8 crashed on cue, it was unable to flip over as planned. They had also filmed an improvised scene of Iron Man ripping open the R8's roof, but the hydraulic arms used for the effects broke before ripping the roof halfway.

  • The scene where Stark reads a newspaper with the headline "Who Is the Iron Man?" differs on the theatrical and DVD release. On the theatrical release, the newspaper used a spy photo of Iron Man, which was taken by freelance photographer Ronnie Adams during the film's production on May 2007. When Adams learned that his picture was used in the film, he filed a lawsuit against Paramount Pictures and Marvel Studios for using the picture without permission. As a result, the newspaper was altered to show a different picture of Iron Man on the DVD release.
