say what you will about the transgendered. aside all that, i'm just halfway through this episode as of now and they're profiling the case of the young boy who is convinced he's a girl, such to the extent that his mother says, "he would talk about having babies in the future". his mother agreed to secretly dress him in girls' clothing when his father wasn't around, and refers to her son's penis as "a birth defect, we call it a birth defect."... but i've heard no mention of having taken the kid to a therapist. it wasn't until a school intervened that the child was taken to a specialist and diagnosed with gender identity disorder.

what i don't understand is why his parents foster his belief that he's a girl when he's been diagnosed with a -disorder-; conversely i don't understand why it's called a "disorder" if the consensus on the best course of action is to allow him to keep indulging the belief that he's female.
