Tdk lights up iTunes

3 December 2008 2:19 AM, PST | From JoBlo.com | See recent JoBlo news

When it's released next Tuesday, you can be sure that The Dark Knight will break pretty much all available home video records. DVD, Blu-ray, sales, rentals...the whole magilla. But The Dark Knight has already set a pretty impressive record. Apple announced that the film is the best-selling downloadable movie on iTunes and it isn't even available for download yet. Based solely on pre-sales, Tdk easily beat the runners-up Wall-e, Kung-fu Panda, Iron Man and National Treasure 2. Pretty...

Bruckheimer talks Pirates 4 and The Lone Ranger plus More

5 November 2008 11:20 PM, PST | From toxicshock.tv | See recent toxicshock news

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer has given an update on the status of the latest film installments of Pirates of the Caribbean and National Treasure as well as the upcoming version of The Lone Ranger: “We’ve sat with the writers and we’re working up the story and plotlines right now [for Pirates 4 and National Treasure 3]. They’re in the process of finishing The Lone Ranger so they’re working on both of those simultaneously, same set of writers, Ted Elliot and Terry Rossio, who did all three Pirates and worked on National Treasure 2. I think they’re pushing towards 2012.” Despite seeming like a long time, Bruckheimer may have no other option to wait due to Pirates director, Gore Verbinski, to finish two of [...]

Goofy is Back With a New Animated Short

1 October 2008 9:52 PM, PDT | From Comicmix.com | See recent Comicmix news

In his first theatrical appearance in nearly 50 years, Disney has brought back Goofy for an all new animated short. Much like others in the "How To" series (such as How to Ride a Horse, How to Play Football, and The Art of Skiing), Goofy learns how to hook up a home theater in How to Hook Up Your Home Theater, released in theaters last Christmas.

Directed and co-written by Kevin Deters in his debut, the short was also voiced by Disney veterens Corey Burton and Bill Farmer with music by Michael Giacchino (Lost, The Incredibles). There are lots of nods to previous Disney favorites and it will bring you back to the last Goofy short you saw in theaters in Aquamania in 1961.

The short was partially produced using a new "paperless" production pipeline for Disney, the first major change in production technique for hand-drawn animation at Disney since the introduction of Caps,

New Goofy short

30 September 2008 3:42 AM, PDT | From JoBlo.com | See recent JoBlo news

If you're a fan of old school Disney animation like I am, you'll be happy to know that they've returned to 2-D animated shorts that will run before theatrical releases. The first in this new line was a return to the classic Goofy "How To" videos from the golden days, "How to Hook Up Your Home Theater." It originally premiered in front of National Treasure 2 but is just coming online now. For something so simple, I have to say I laughed out loud a few times. I'm sure...

24 September 2008 6:49 PM, PDT | From Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news

The buzz circulating around the making of "National Treasure 3" is no longer a mere speculation. IESB reported earlier that producer Jerry Bruckheimer, "National Treasure" star Nicolas Cage and Disney's Dick Cook have come out to confirm the development of the second sequel of the Walt Disney Pictures adventure franchise.

Though announcing that the third installment is indeed on the work, the threesome do not share out any official release date. However, words are this proposed flick may head to the theaters sometime during the holiday season of 2010. Previously, speculations over the third installment have been circulating around where the film will take place, one of which suggested New Orleans. Still, there is yet verification on the matter.

Must Be the 'Season of the Witch' for Nic Cage

22 September 2008 3:11 PM, PDT | From GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news

Briefly, it appeared as though Nicolas Cage regretted his post-Oscar losing streak with movies like Captain Corelli's Mandolin and Windtalkers. Oh, let's not forget the dire Snake Eyes and 8mm. Don't even get me started on City of Angels.

But between 2002 and 2006 he made six pretty good to very good films in a row: Adaptation, Matchstick Men, National Treasure, Lord of War, The Weather Man, and World Trade Center. And then, whoa daddy, did the wheels come off. The best movie he's made since then is probably....uh...National Treasure 2. Unless you're a big fan of Wicker Man or Next, that is.

The downward trend will continue, with Cage signing up for the supanatural thrilla Season of the Witch with director Dominic Sena. Sena directed Gone in 60 Seconds, which is probably a misdemeanor, at worst maybe you get some community service. But it's not a felony, really.>p>

'National Treasure 3' Possibly Heading South

4 September 2008 12:45 AM, PDT | From Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news

Words are "National Treasure 3" is going to take place in the South. Fueling up the speculation over where the franchise's third installment will take place, Nicolas Cage, the leading man in both of the first "National Treasure" movies, has revealed to MTV News, "There's been talk about doing it in the South, maybe in New Orleans."

Though Cage has suggested a particular location place for Benjamin Franklin Gates' new adventure, the truth of the matter is still questionable. Previously, an article on JimHillMedia.com has lit up a possibility that Gates and his family may be exploring even further south as they are speculated to go to Easter Island and beyond to find the legendary Atlantis.

The last "National Treasure" flick to have been released in theaters was "National Treasure: Book of Secrets". Standing tall for three weekends in a row at the #1 box office chart, the sequel directed by

The cast of Quentin Tarantino’s “Inglorious Bastards” is growing.

According to Variety, Diane Kruger, Christoph Waltz and Raul Rust are the latest to join the ultraviolent WWII drama.

Kruger, whose acting credits include "Troy," “National Treasure” and "National Treasure: Book of Secrets," plays German actress Bridget von Hammersmark, who’s somehow involved in a plot to sabotage the Nazis.

As for Waltz, he stars as Col. Hans Landa, the film’s main antagonist. Specific details concerning Rust’s role are unknown at this stage.

Also on board of the flick are Bard Pitt, Eli Roth, Mike Myers, Michael Fassbender and B.J. Novak. Simon Pegg was also in talks to play a British lieutenant, but he had to drop out because of scheduling conflicts.

I’m very glad to hear that the casting process is going so well. That way they can head into principal photography on time and get

Nicholas Cage gears up to ‘Kick-Ass’

Nicholas Cage is the latest to join the cast of “Kick-Ass,” Matthew Vaughn’s upcoming adaptation of Mark Millar’s violent comic book, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Aaron Johnson and Lyndsy Fonseca also boarded the project.

The story centers on a boring high school student (Johnson) who attempts to become a real-life superhero named Kick-Ass but runs into several troubles because of his poor physique. Cage stars as an ex-cop who struggles to bring down a local druglord.

Also on board is “Superbad” star Christopher Mintz-Plasse, who plays the aggressive son of a mobster who tries to uncover Kick-Ass’ identity.

Most of the major studios refused to develop the project because of the comic’s excessive violence, which is why Vaughn raised the budget for the flick himself.

Vaughn previously directed “Layer Cake” and “Stardust.” Cage most recently starred in “National Treasure: Book of Secrets.” He will next be

Disney Indicates Strike Cut Costs, Spurred Profits

7 May 2008 10:46 AM, PDT | From Studio Briefing | See recent Studio Briefing news

The Walt Disney Co. is the latest media conglomerate to report stronger-than-expected quarterly results in the wake of the recent writers' strike. In fact, it said in its Sec filing Tuesday, net profit soared 22 percent from a year ago, coming in at $1.13 billion on revenue of $8.71 billion. Its ABC Studios contributed to a 14 percent growth in income for its media networks unit, largely because of lower production costs during the strike. Profits at its movie studios also shot up as a result of such hits as National Treasure: Book of Secrets, Enchanted, and Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds. But it was Disney's theme parks that surprised the most, delivering an amazing 33 percent jump in revenue. Analysts had forecast only a slight bump or even a downturn in attendance given the current recession. They attributed much of the boost to the fact that the Easter holiday arrived in the second quarter this year -- it usually occurs in the third quarter -- and the surge in overseas visitors seeking to take advantage of the depressed American dollar.

Movies Get Off To Their Best Start in Years

31 January 2008 | From Studio Briefing | See recent Studio Briefing news

Hollywood got off to a roaring start in January with the domestic box office reporting ticket sales up 18 percent over January 2007. According to media-measurement firm Rentrak, total sales for the month came in at $773.4 million vs. $657.9 million a year ago. The box office also reported higher earnings than in 2006 ($703 million) and 2005 ($648 million). Particularly auspicious was the fact that three films crossed the $200-million mark in January, including 20th Century Fox's Alvin and the Chipmunks, Warner Bros.' I Am Legend, and Disney's National Treasure: Book of Secrets. Perhaps just as surprising, the Fox Searchlight movie Juno crossed the $100-million mark, an achievement that few independent films can boast about.

Rambo Meets the Spartans, Loses

28 January 2008 | From Studio Briefing | See recent Studio Briefing news

The low-budget Meet the Spartans, a spoof of last year's 300 from Warner Bros., earned as much as it cost to produce at the domestic box office over the weekend, taking in an estimated $18.7 million and edging out Rambo, from Lionsgate and the Weinstein Co., which finished in second place with about $18.2 million, according to box-office trackers Media by Numbers. The two films knocked last week's winner, Cloverfield to fourth place. After grossing $44.3 million over the four-day Martin Luther King Day holiday, Cloverfield garnered just $12.7 million in its second weekend, a 72-percent drop. It was beaten by the film it trounced a week ago, 20th Century Fox's 27 Dresses. Debuting in fifth place was Sony's Untraceable, which took in a better-than-expected $11.2 million. Continuing to amaze was Fox Searchlight's Juno, which passed the $100-million mark an upped its gross from last week despite losing some 100 theaters. The top ten films for the weekend, according to studio estimates compiled by Media by Numbers: 1. Meet the Spartans, $18.7 million; 2. Rambo, $18.2 million; 3. 27 Dresses, $13.6 million; 4. Cloverfield, $12.7 million; 5. Untraceable, $11.2 million; 6. Juno, $10.3 million; 7. The Bucket List, $10.2 million; 8. There Will be Blood, $4.9 million; 9. The box office posted solid results on Monday, the Martin Luther King Day holiday, with the top 12 movies recording $27 million in ticket sales, according to final figures released Tuesday by Media by Numbers. Paramount's Cloverfield led the pack with a gross of $6.09 million. It also set a record for the four-day holiday with a total of $46.1 million. It's three-day total of $40 million set a weekend record for January, erasing the previous record of $35 million set by Star Wars (Special Edition) in 1997. Paramount says that the total budget for Cloverfield was just $25 million, although it was assumed that the studio spent far more than that to promote it. In a successful effort at counter-programming, Fox's 27 Dresses came in second with $27.4 million for the holiday, $4.43 million of which was earned on Monday. The top ten films over the four-day Martin Luther King Day holiday weekend, according to final figures compiled by Media by Numbers (figures in parentheses represent total gross to date): 1.
