Last year I spent a few weeks in London (Croydon, actually) at the home of a hardcore horror freak named Paul McEvoy. And since Paul is a co-founder and programmer for UK FrightFest, well, let's just say I had a whole bunch of horror flick festival screeners to pick through. It was awesome. One of those discs had the words Fritt Vilt scrawled across it, and I didn't even know what language that was. Turns out it was Norwegian and the flick's English title is Cold Prey. Despite the fact that, plot-wise, it's a pretty conventional slasher flick, I quite liked Fritt Vilt, and I was pleased to learn that the sequel is on the way. Anchor Bay will be releasing the original, and you can check out the trailer and website right here.
Looks like After Dark Horrorfest decided to share their newest posters with a few different horror sites.

Fritt Vilt, also known as Cold Prey (review), is a Norwegian snowboarding slasher that I think should pique the interests of many readers. And thanks to the folks at Anchor Bay we'll soon have the opportunity to see for ourselves!
Johnny Butane got us the exclusive word that Anchor Bay Home Entertainment will be releasing Roar Uthaug's icy slasher pic on DVD, but no release date was specified. Now would be a good time ... hint, hint.
Cold Prey 2 is currently in the works, as well, and early word on it is that it's a worth successor. Keep it here for updates on both!

In the current wave of Nordic horror films Roar Uthaug’s Fritt Vilt is the undisputed champion, the film whose runaway success triggered the current wave of hackers, slashers and ghost tales. And though Uthaug is not directing it himself he is following the cardinal rule of horror film by producing a sequel to his hit film and there’s no reason at all to believe that Fritt Vilt 2 won’t be every bit as successful as the first installment. The initial teaser was impressive and now there’s a full trailer available and the more I see from this the more I like. The action picks up right where the first volume left off with this one looking to up the action and violence quotients by a good amount.
Check out the trailer and the initial teaser below the break.

While there are several reasons there is a boom in horror and genre film across the entire Nordic region right now if you had to pick one over riding cause, the one most significant factor then that factor is Roar Uthaug’s Fritt Vilt or Cold Prey. The first slasher film ever produced in Norway the film attracted stacks of international attention thanks to its stellar production values and became a huge hit throughout the region thanks to Uthaug’s skills creating believable characters and building tension. Not only does Uthaug have one of the best names ever for a horror film director but he’s also one incredibly skilled film maker. So, with Fritt Vilt banking stacks of cash producers suddenly became bold and realized there was a future in this horror stuff and then train got rolling ...
And now the original is back. No, Uthaug is not directing the sequel himself (boo!

I still haven't seen the original Cold Prey, but after watching the official teaser for its sequel I must say I'm looking forward to rectifying that by tracking it down. Roar Uthaug has passed the directing torch over to Mats Stenberg on this one but apparently the film takes place directly after the events of the first, so I imagine some consideration has been made to match the look and feel of original hit. The winter of 2006 five young friends met a brutal death in the Jotunheimen mountain range of Norway. Only a young woman survived. Cold and weak Jannicke struggles her way back to civilization. In the small local hospital the personnel are going through their daily routines. But then the bloody and beaten young woman is brought in. Later Jannicke wakes up in her hospital bed. But the hospital is darkened and not a living soul is in sight.

A fun foreign film to be released last year was "Fritt Vilt", or Cold Prey if you will, a little slasher film from Norway. Today we discovered that not only is the official website now online for the sequel, but we got our hands on the poster and trailer for the film. You can watch the trailer by heading over to Bdtv or read on for the poster. The story will pick up where the first one left off: The winter of 2006 five young friends met a brutal death in the Jotunheimen mountain range of Norway. Only a young woman survived. Cold and weak Jannicke struggles her way back to civilization. In the small local hospital the personnel are going through their daily routines. But then the bloody and beaten young woman is brought in.
